This unit talked about the use of course materials in the classroom. Parts of the unit were geared towards learning about the difference between authentic and created materials and the benefits and drawbacks of each. The unit also talked about how to go about selecting a course book for your class if the school you work for does not already have materials that they want you to use. Also talked about in the unit were the difficulties of using a course book, the benefits of having a set schedule and material plan that a course book provides, and how good teachers will evaluate the activities in their course materials to either bring in or leave out areas of the course book that are not suitable for their class. From this unit I learned to be mindful of the price of course material due to the situation of the students that I could have. I had not thought before to factor in the economic situation of the students when selecting materials.
