This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Speaking and writing are the two productive skills students must be presented with in the classroom. For a lesson to be effective, students must have the need and desire to communicate. Accuracy and fluency are important to achieve, but should be approached in differenct manners. When teaching for accuracy, lessons should be guided and controlled by the teacher. When teaching for fluency, the teacher should allow the students to be creative and experiment with the languange, controlling the ouput themselves. Spelling, punctuation and penmanship are all factors to measure for a writing exercise. Writing activities in the classroom are more productive than relegating them to homework, as students will often fail to complete the work at home. Finally, classroom games can help motivate and engage students of all ages. Personally, I like to finish my lessons with a review game to end on a fun note and keep the material fresh in their minds.
