This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The last unit on grammar, and this was a doozy. I still have issues I am working through with regard to passive voice, so I find it hard to imagine how difficult it must be to teach students to largely avoid its use. With that said, perhaps if students have not been immersed in academic writing where the authors often slip into passive voice, they might be less inclined to fall into that trap. (Note: I also wonder about the prevalence of passive voice in other languages and whether that might affect how inclined an English language learner would be to use the passive voice). On the flip side, as someone who grew up speaking English, modal auxiliary verbs do not seem difficult, but in looking at the wonderful table you have produced, I can imagine teaching students which mode to use in a given situation could be a challenge; I know that my 8-year old has trouble with this skill (but it could just be that he is a precocious little cuss).
