Unit 18 is about modals, phrasal verbs and passive voice. First we learn about modal auxiliary verbs. We learn how they can be used as well as how this can be taught to students. Next we learn about passive voice. We learn how passive sentence formation differs from active formation and why we might you passive vs. active voices, and of course, we learn some ideas for teaching this. We also learn the different types of relative clauses. The unit ends by explaining the different types of phrasal verbs.This unit explains phonetic pronunciation. The unit also gives some rules, and diagrams of the human mouth all the while explaining how the mouth makes certain sounds and how sounds are formed. The unit also goes into some details about using the phonetic spelling of words to teach english. I can see how this might be helpful if you were to teach someone that knew a language and had no knowledge of English, but this unit has proven extremely difficult and I can see why most teachers avoid this method.
