The use of past tenses is similar to the use of present tenses, in that most native English speakers will use them correctly instinctually, but may not have an accurate grasp of their terminology, or be able to explain their usage. However, teaching a language requires an ability to explain why certain tenses are used, and how to use them, so it is vital an ESL teacher has an accurate understanding of how to explain the different past tenses, and their usage.I have learnt first section of the text covers the subject of modal auxiliary verbs, including their usages, ideas for presenting them in the classroom and some difficulties that they can cause for both students and teachers. The second section of the text covers the passive voice, including its comparison to the active voice, its usages and a selection of teaching ideas that can be used to practice a student?s understanding of the subject in the classroom.
