This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit described the rules and different types of modal verbs, as well as the types of clauses, and passive and active voice. The majority of the lesson was fairly straight forward, but what I found most challenging was the section on Phrasal Verbs. I can't recall learning the 3 types of phrasal verbs--Intransitive, Transitive Separable, and Transitive inseparable--but I feel I have a better understanding now than before. However, I feel that some practice would be needed in explaining to students what phrasal verbs are to lower-level students. The content of this unit comprises the theories, methods and techniques involved in teaching English as a foreign language. It provides good context about how to proceed in a classroom, and even offers suggestions for different age groups. Overall, the most proven method of teaching English as a foreign language is the ESA method - Engage, Study, Activate - in which all the basic methods/techniques (including, Grammar-Translation, Task-Based Learning, Suggestopaedia, etc.) are exploited allowing flexibility and suitable reciprocation amongst students.
