In this lesson, I learned about two of the four receptive skills. These skills were the reading and listening receptive skills. I learned that there are different reasons for both listening and reading. One is for a specific and productive reason whereas the other is for entertainment and enjoyment. I also learned that there are different ways that we read and listen. We use a variety of ways to read and listen, like using predictive skills, scanning, skimming, looking for detailed information, and lastly, deduction from context. It is important for a teacher to pre-teach any content or vocabulary words from a lesson that can be challenging or complicated for the students so that they can go into their lesson with a more detailed understanding. I also learned that there are authentic and non-authentic texts. Authentic texts are not designed for language students whereas non-authentic texts are specifically designed for language students.
