In this unit we saw an overview of the grammatical types and functions of the words that we use to form sentences. We saw basic categories like nouns and verbs, but also more specific categories like proper nouns, transitive verbs, verb forms, different types of prepositions, and so on. It gives a clearer image of the structure and meaning of each sentence, and helps us see what each word in the sentence is referring to. It is important to always keep these structures in mind, so that we can avoid grammatical mistakes.In this unit we learned about various stages of beginner learners, including what needs and potential motivations those learners may have. We were given ideas and guidance as to both the structure and content of effective lessons and methods of teaching toward these learners. Included in the unit was a focus on adult learners, both on a one to one basis as well as in a class format. We learned that teaching adults is often related to and motivated by their line of work, and we were given guidance and ideas to that end.
