With this unit covering techniques to teach both writing and speaking skills, it was interesting to see how different the methods could be to cater to each skill. I know from my own experience taking foreign language classes that writing skills are often secondary in many such classes and speaking is the primary concern. However, I know I, for one, learned the language more easily when I could write effectively in it. So having instruction on activities and prompts to ensure students focus on the writing aspect of language is extremely important to me.The teacher's attitude and engagement with the students is of great importance in motivating the students. When the teacher is distant and seemingly bored, it affects the students. The teacher in the 2nd video seemed like a different person, and the students seemed also like different people. The contrast was like night and day. The students in the 2nd session were so much more relaxed, as well as much more enthusiastic in their interest level and participation. The contrast, as well as the difference in results, could not have been more striking.
