The receptive skills are listening and reading, because learners do not need to produce language to do these, they receive and understand it. These skills are sometimes known as passive skills. They can be contrasted with the productive or active skills of speaking and writing. The relationship between receptive and productive skills is a complex one, with one set of skills naturally supporting another. For example, building reading skills can contribute to the development of writing.This section was extremely challenging, especially the last bit on reading Phonetic script. Pronunciation is important to teach and going about it will be hard especially when everyone pronounces words differently. Even words as common as potato or tomato are pronounced differently by nearly every person in the United States. Getting to a point where the students will be able to preform and understand the difference and know they are the same word will be a interesting task to tackle.
