This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Materials in a classroom are very important when engaging students in the language. Textbooks and activities can vary greatly and how they should be used depends on the level of the students, the creativity of the teacher and the materials available to the teacher. I learned that even without a flexible budget, a teacher can use other resources and ideas to enhance the material she does have. I also learned that it is best to vary the kinds of materials to engage and motivate the students in the language. Material such as real items from daily life rather than textbook designed materials should be the end goal or aim for the students to use by the end of the lessons and show them how practical learning the language is. Mixing the order of the textbook lessons to better suit the needs of your students and enriching materials or activities with your own ideas and your students' interests is optimal when designing lessons for your students.
