This unit covers the basics of teaching to different kinds of students. When teaching beginners, teachers need to be extra clear and give simple instructions, and make sure to be patient and not do too much too quickly. Teaching individual students is quite different to teaching groups, as only one student's needs are to be catered for, but many activities designed for group lessons can still be adapted for an individual. Teaching children is perhaps the most rewarding kind of lesson, but the teacher has a greater responsibility as he/she is acting \"in loco parentis\". Teaching business English or for special purposes would require the teacher to do a needs negotiation with the clients to find out their needs and thus plan their lessons. Teaching monolingual classes are also somewhat different from teaching multilingual classes, but the focus is still on trying to have all the students communicate in English and not their mother tongue.
