This unit focused on suggested techniques when teaching new vocabulary and grammar structures to English language learners. When teaching new vocabulary and grammar the 'straight-arrow' method is preferred while the 'boomerang' is preferred when teaching functions. A good rule of thumb when teaching vocabulary is to make sure the language is accessible, useful/applicable in daily or casual interactions. New words are learned effectively through picture flashcards, skits , material production tasks (e.g. posters).This unit discussed some of the different testing options that an English teacher and his/her students might incur in an EFL classroom. There are basic placement and diagnostic tests to tell a teacher what a student knows before the start of the course. There are many options for testing throughout the duration of the course to measure the students' learning progress. Finally, there are many different external exams that measure a students' proficiency. These are standardized outside of the school and coursework.
