After completing this unit, I feel that receptive skills are extremelly important in teaching a language. Before this unit, I was aware of receptive skills and quite often used them throughout my studies; however now I have a more in depth understanding of them. This unit shows us that both listening and reading are skills that have an equal importance in the learning process. Upon focusing on each skill individually, we discover the subskills that accompany them. For example, reading gives us the examples of skimming and scanning. These are both valuable skills.Students may develop confusion between the present and past tenses due to the similar structures. There are evident rules that teachers would be able to distinguish and therefore convey to their students. The past simple tense has a simple structure students would easily recognize compared to past perfect continuous, which has the most complex form. Meanwhile, the past continue form will always have the ?ing? form of a verb, plus the verb ?to be? preceding it. Another distinct tense is the past perfect, where the verb ?to have? will always be present.
