This unit covers equipment and teaching aids used in the classroom. Common equipment used includes: White/black board, overhead projector, visual aids, worksheets, cassette recorder, CD player, DVDs and computers. Materials such as dictionaries, course books, resource books and online resources can also be used for teaching English. I found this unit helpful for the long lists of materials available online and the books for activities which were listed.This unit covers the what and how to use books and materials in the classroom. It covers the difference between authentic and created materials and the good and bad of course books. As with most everything with teaching English, there needs to be balance. You should not use too much of one material or one course book or else class becomes boring and predictable. Variety can help maintain the interest of a student and keep the teacher from becoming lazy.
