This unit is based on course books and lesson materials to be used by teachers. It provides information about the different types of materials that could be used (grouped under two main types; Authentic and Created materials). It also outlines the advantages and disadvantages of course books and the best ways in which they could be effectively used in the classroom.
I think this is definitely an important area that needs careful attention by the teacher because the choice of lesson materials will determine the dynamics of the lessons and whether or not students will be interested in the language. Materials that don't draw students' attention and make them interested will be a major drawback for the teacher.
Furthermore, lesson materials and course books should also be suitable and interesting to the teacher in order to deliver the lessons with enthusiasm and interest. This will be contagious and students will pick up the same attitude.
