When teaching communication activities, it's important to acknowledge the purpose that writing and speaking has and how it can be incorporated into classroom activities. These activities will focus on either accuracy e.g. controlled by teacher to promote correct reproduction of language or fluency activities that encourage creativity and communication effectiveness. As with any exercise, students may be initially nervous to participate therefore, pair-work, planning relevant activities and guiding students to build their confidence.
Students learning and developing writing skills can face difficulties in understanding the English alphabet and formation of letters. This area should be focussed on in addition to speech as a result of how society communicates today. For example, understanding layout and formal writing of emails and letters and also spelling differences between British English and American English that can create confusion.
