This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered different teaching methods and lesson structures, how to make corrections, and included a significant amount of possible classroom activities. The ESA (Engage, Study and Activate) model was presented as the primary mode of lesson organization. In the Engage stage, motivation is built, and is often used as a warm-up. The Study stage presents the primary content of the lesson and drills this element. The Activate stage is an activity designed so the students use both the language from the current lesson and their existing English language abilities. This activity encourages more ‘free’ communication. Such ESA lessons can be structured in several ways, including Straight Arrow, Boomerang, and Patchwork. In giving feedback and corrections, it is important to give the right amount. Too much correction can be as bad as too little correction. Correction should also be done in a manner that does not embarrass students.
