This unit deals with the modal verbs, the passive voice, the relative clauses and the phrasal verbs. Regarding the modal verbs, we get a table summing up the usages of the 14 modal verbs and their meaning.
The second part explains how the passive voice is built and in which context it can be used and the meaning of its usage.
As regards relative clause, they are often introduced by relative pronouns such as who, which, that, whose and whom and the relative clause can be defining (essential to the meaning of the sentence) or non defining (non essential to the meaning of the sentence, in that case, the relative clause is written between commas example :My girlfriend, who lives at number 36, has been arrested).
Then we get an overview of phrasal verbs or multi-word verbs, that consist of a verb plus one or two particles such as “He didn’t turn up†or “She looks up to her grandmother†and their their 3 different types.
