Juxtaposed one next to the other, the two video presentations can be used to constructively exhibit to teachers two extreme images of failure and success in the classroom. Nothing can be perfect of course and that includes teachers’ in-class performance, and while I believe that the teacher in the peak performance video could have done more to activate the students’ capacity and check their understanding of the lesson’s content, the fact remains that his performance was close enough to the optimum and conducive to effective learning and information retention.
Though the teacher’s performance in the first video was exaggeratedly bad, it can still nonetheless be presented to teachers (both experienced and aspirant) as an eye-opening indicator of the teaching errors committed within the classroom. Errors that, despite being far less egregious, can be damaging in their own right if left unchecked over a long period of time.
