This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
From this unit and video lesson I have learned that the attitude of the teacher can greatly affect the atmosphere and overall outcome of the lesson. Developing a rapport with students by learning their names and smiling will often encourage those students to participate. Using a variety of examples, along with visual aids, is much more helpful than repeating the same example over and over again. The teacher should always be engaging with the students and communicate in a clear and concise manner.Modal verbs such as can, can't, might, should, could, would, may etc are used to indicate possibility, obligation, ability and when giving advice. They also indicate levels of formality within English. Modal verbs tend to pose problems for learners of English as they indicate varying levels of certainty. Students need to become familiar with them through uncontrolled dialogue. While sentences using the active and passive voices convey similar meanings, the subject and object of each is different.
