Conditionals are sentences with two clauses. One clause will contain the words \"if\" or \"when\" and states what condition must be realized in order for the other clause to happen. Either clause can come in the first part of the sentence. There are 5 main types of conditionals: zero, first, second, third and mixed. These 5 types cover most of the usages for past, present and future conditional statements that have consequences that are either definite, probable or unlikely.
When changing direct speech to indirect speech, there are often several changes made to the sentence. These changes can be the pronouns, the verb tense and the time expression. What exact changes need to be made will depend on the time that has passed since the conversation being reported, who is being spoken about and to, and what verb tense was used in the initial statement. Reported speech is not a direct quotation and does not need to be in quotes when written.
