When it comes to the past tenses in English, they are sorted into four types; past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. A verb added -ed or -d to the base form of the verb is a past simple verb. The most important thing in the past simple tense is irregular verbs. Teachers should prepare a list of irregular verbs and several activities that student can get used to use those verbs. Next, action verbs in progress at time in the past are past continuous verbs; basically, was/were plus verb-ing form. An auxiliary verb had plus past participle form stands for past perfect tense. Typically, it indicates past in the past. Lastly, the past perfect continuous. This past tense certainly is not the most frequently used tense in the English language; however, it has a major usage which is to talk about longer actions or situations in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about.
