Unit 15 was mainly about the different types of tests students take to evaluate their level. There were four mentioned: placement tests, usually taken before a language course begins, progress tests, a test taken periodically within the duration of the course, diagnostic tests, which are similar to placement tests but are also gauge to find gaps in the students knowledge to then be able to build lessons around that, and finally practice tests, which are usually taken before an external examination.Despite looking as a superficial issue, exams and evaluations are deeper than just a final grade in a scale from 1 to ten. This is our, one-in-a-long-time, chance to know how effective our methods as teachers have been. I have heard of some of the external exams but I had no idea about all those held by American institutions. I guess that as teachers it is important to know them all so we can recommend to our students and encourage them to take those that suit to their possibilities and capacities.
