I enjoyed this unit because it brought back good memories of language arts classes in school. Being a French professor, most of the parts of speech come naturally to me because I have to explain them to my students when we cover grammar. Some of the more advanced topics like transitive and intransitive verbs are not something I use in class, so this was very helpful to refresh my memory. My students struggle with articles because they are necessary in French, so I am familiar with having to remind them that you cannot translate languages word-by-word and that sometimes you just have to memorize words that do not follow a pattern. I think this lesson really helped me understand that I know the material, so my focus needs to be on how to best teach the language whereas my French skills are non-native, so I have to focus on not only teaching the material well, but also making sure my French is satisfactory. This has helped my confidence moving forward!
