This unit required the watching of the same lesson presented by the same teacher in two different manners--one highly effective and the other bewilderingly ineffective. In the first video, the teacher is condescending, unprepared and boring. He never models any of the activities, and his explanations would even be confusing to a native English speaker. He is the epitome of what not to do in the classroom. It's hard to believe that the second video features the exact same teacher and students, because the results are dramatically different. In the second video, the teacher is positive and upbeat. He brings energy and excitement into the classroom with his attitude and creates a totally different atmosphere conducive to learning. By the end of the lesson, it is obvious that the students know how to use modal auxiliary verbs even if they don't know exactly what they're called grammatically. They have also learned new animal and action verb vocabulary.
