The premise of this unit was to discuss the advantages & disadvantages of coursebooks and lesson materials. The information about authentic vs. created materials was a good review. I definitely agree that the use of both these materials makes for a more productive and enjoyable classroom learning experience. Next, learning the pros & cons of using a textbook were good for analyzing how I would effectively use a book within my class. I completely agreed with the best uses of a textbook as I view it as a beneficial direction-setter for an instructor, yet not something that should be relied on completely. The use of new ideas and varied activities keeps students from becoming bored or disinterested in the coursework. Also, created materials allows another opportunity to assist students to effectively grasp the material. Using various methods beyond the coursebook can also benefit in reaching all students ways of learning (tactile, visual, auditory, verbal).
