This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I feel the most important lesson I have learnt was to see what difference the TEACHER's attitude has on the learners. In order to get the student?s attention, and keep it, the teacher needs to put in energy and create a participative atmosphere. This takes practice as well as planning. In the second lesson it was clear the teacher had a plan and a clear outcome that he wants to achieve. Another issue is the importance of creating a friendly and comfortable environment where all students feel free to participate.Once again, this unit seemed to be a review of a lot of commonsense points I already know. For instance, it is useful to research coursebooks before buying and using them, and even if you have a coursebook on hand, you should not use them for your class 100% of the time. You need to be able to change things up for the students (like using created materials for more beginner students and authentic materials for the more advance), and the coursebooks don't necessarily accommodate that particular group of students.
