Although I use these tenses in everyday language, I had forgotten that there were four different present tenses. While this fact is taken for granted by native English speakers, it is important to fully understand the differences when teaching English as a second language. The examples of possible mistakes were very useful and helped me to understand where students may struggle and allow me time to determine the best way to approach these issues.This unit covers the techniques for teaching productive skills such as speaking and writing. For students to feel confident enough to speak, the classroom environment should be welcoming and contain topics of interest to get the students excited to talk. Also, when writing is being taught, many problems can arise due to a student's L1 with even formation of letters or punctuation. Patience and a lot of prep time is needed for writing assignments.
