I thought studying tenses and their forms would be easy but was surprised when I struggled to memorize all the different rules and usages. As I am a non-native speaker, I use past simple and past continuous in my daily basic conversation. But I have to explain to my ESL students how to use the past perfect tense and past perfect continuous even if it is not the most frequently used (or taught) tense in the English Language. Unit 6 helped me look deeper and search more about the system and structure of past tenses.In this unit, the choices of textbooks are analyzed next to the factors weighing in on which materials on how to use effectively. The difference between created and authentic materials is described, so the teacher learns to balance the best of both worlds. There are different workarounds when the teacher is limited by the textbooks requirements or availability of the country where lesson are given and this is shown in this unit. These helpful tips create a foundation for the inexperienced teachers to fall back on.
