This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, I learned that no matter how experienced a teacher is, they are still bound to encounter some problem situations in the classroom, though that is the case, this unit suggested several ways of dealing with them. During the first lesson, it is best not to dive right into the textbook and start teaching, teachers should try to establish rapport between students and find out more about the students, the teacher can use questionnaires or games to do that. When the teacher faces a class of students at different levels, the teachers can use different materials, assign different tasks, and/or pair stronger students with weaker ones. When teachers come across students who don’t quite want to talk or participate in class, it may be because of confidence issues, if it is due to the listening text being too difficult, the teacher could pre-teach the difficult vocabulary so the students have a better chance at trying to understand the listening text.
