The two videos in Unit 10 provide examples of TEFL lessons. They serve to exemplify the effect of teaching attitude and planning on the efficacy of an individual class lesson.
While the instructor is not overly negative in the first example, he fails to encourage students to participate effectively throughout. He does not introduce himself, learn the names of his students or provide adequate examples for what he is trying to elicit from the class. He displays a lack of patience at times during the first video and an inability to make the students feel comfortable in experimenting with new language.
The second lesson begins quite differently with the instructor introducing himself to the class and making an effort to learn their names. He speaks more clearly and maintains a more positive, patience demeanor throughout. The students' response is immediately apparent as they are much more willing to communicate and test out the new language for themselves.
