It is good to have a lesson plan to help structure the lesson, but the teacher must always be prepared to be flexible and adapt the lesson to the needs and the pace of the students. When writing material down for the lesson plan, it is important to keep it simple and and not script the lesson. It is important to have a balance and variety of skills used in the activities, and to anticipate possible problems that might arise during the lesson (with solutions to those problems). The estimated time of each activity should be marked next to the activity. The teacher should prepare any teaching aids that will be used ahead of class. The teacher must build goals for the students, and always review past material from lesson to lesson so the students retain all the information from one lesson topic before moving on to another topic. Sequencing and documenting lessons is important in this regard, and documenting what the students have accomplished after every class.
