This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I have learned about pronounciation and phonology , and how it should be a part of a course but is often neglected by teachers. I have learned about the sound system: stress, rhythm and intonation, and how they can be used to indicate what our emotions are , whether we are asking a question, agreeing or disagreeing with someone. there were some useful ideas for teaching intonation and stress, like nonsense words , chanting rhythms, clapping. Another thing I have learned was articulation and what are the most important expressions to know for manner of articulation. This unit showed how a teacher and the lesson structure can have a major impact on the students' learning abilities. When the teacher is cheerful and detailed in their lesson the students become more receptive and gain a better understanding of what they are being taught. A teacher should always be descriptive and detailed when teaching a concept. It is also important that they interact with the students and answer questions as they come up. If the teacher seems distant and disengaged the students will be less likely to participate or even understand what they are being taught.
