This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered conditional speech and reported, or indirect speech. There are five types of conditional speech. Zero conditional refers to facts and first conditional refers to future events that are probable or certain. Second conditional is used in hypothetical future situations and third conditional is used in hypothetical past situations. Mixed conditional is a mix of second and third. Reported speech means reporting what someone else said. Splitting up sentences and having students practice in various ways is a way that students can practice with conditionals. Reported speech is reporting what someone else has said. In studying this portion, I found that I actually speak incorrectly at times when I am reporting, because I use the wrong tenses. If you are reporting something that was said in the past and referring to it in the past, then what the person said becomes past tense too. Role-playing and interviewing are good ways to practice reported speech.
