While mastering the phonemic alphabet is not a requirement in learning a language it can be an added tool to help students recognize specific sounds which may be new or different from those they are accustomed to. It gives them the basis for understanding the symbology in their books and dictionaries which would allow them to sound out new words on their own, as opposed to relying exclusively on a native English speaker to provide a model.I learn quite a bit during the application of this unit. I didn't know what a conditional was. Being a native English speaker exposure to this language comes naturally. It was interesting to see what terms fit with each conditional. I battled to grasp the understanding of the two different speeches. Again this is something that come naturally to one. I also found that I really had to read the question a couple of times before I answered it.
