Teachers can a control a variety of factors to help create a positive learning environment for students in the classroom. The teacher may make the lesson more interesting through varying their voice and maintaining eye contact to keep students involved. The teacher may drastically change the environment of the classroom by arranging desks in rows, a circle, or small groups. The teach can vary the style in which students work to range from whole-class activities to individual activities to pair or small-group activities. This can help keep all students involved, keep the class interesting, and minimize the amount of unnecessary teacher talk time. The teacher should use all of these factors to find a balance between helpful teacher talk time and student talk time that allows the students to practice and use the new language. The teacher must also balance including all the students in the lesson and giving individual attention to those students who are struggling.
