Lesson planning is a very important way for the teacher to prepare for the lessons. The teacher must strike the balance between a lesson plan that is too detailed and rigid and a lesson plan that is incomplete and unhelpful. For an inexperienced teacher, however, it is always safer to be more detailed in your planning than otherwise. A good lesson plan will include a teaching goal for students to reach by the end of the lesson, as well as a brief outline of the activities necessary, following the ESA approach, to meet such a goal. The lesson plan should also include the anticipated time of each activity, so that there are neither parts of the lesson that must be postponed, nor too much unplanned time at the end of class. In reality, however, the lesson might not go exactly as planned, and a good lesson plan should be flexible enough to adjust to the demands and needs of the class. Lesson plans also enable the teacher to have a written record of each day's class.
