This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this chapter I learned about the qualities that make a successful teacher and learner, as well as consideration of the roles a teacher will use in a class. The roles are like tools in a tool box, not one tool/role fits all situations all the time. Other considerations include, but are not limited to motivations for learning English, age of the students, level of ability in the student's language, and the differences between English and the students' culture and first language.
I think possibly the most important thing I learned from this chapter are the qualities of a good learner because not only will those qualities help me to improve in my own learning and growth, but these are semi-tangible goals that I should foster in my future students. To build on their motivations and cultivate a space where it's okay to make mistakes and be wrong and to learn from it through experimenting with the language and really thinking about how we as individuals learn best.
