This unit consisted of two videos showing two different approaches to teaching the same class. Both videos feature the same students and the same teacher. It is very interesting to see how differently the same students responded to the two approaches. Broadly speaking, the first class showed a bored, unengaging, unprepared and ineffective teacher, whilst the second class was very engaging, light hearted, well structured and clearly delivered, and much more effective. I felt I gained some insights on mistakes that should be avoided - such as writing for a long time on the whiteboard, allowing long, unproductive and disheartening silences, giving inaccurate answers to questions without ascertaining if the students understood etc. On the other hand, I learnt that a simple positive and enthusiastic attitude, when backed up with good class preparation and structure, can be very effective and pleasurable, especially when delivered with a smile and a sense of humour.
