This unit was a great expansion on the initial lesson planning unit. The first unit dealt with the theoretical ideas behind ESA lesson planning, but this section started to apply teaching concrete language concept using the ESA method. The three categories of concrete language concepts were vocabulary, grammar constructs, and functions. Vocabulary is the introduction of news words, specifically words that are appropriate to the learner's level, are regularly used by natives, and are relevant to the topic. The grammatical constructs are new phrases or expressions. It is important to explain their meanings, usages, and what patterns/formations they follow. The final aspect of language concepts was functions. Functions are the actual uses for a language, actions that are accomplish through language such as asking, suggesting, or telling. These lessons will focus very heavily on activation stages as it's vital to use the language to understand how it functions in use.
