This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Well, I am a lot more familiar with the methods of how to teach phonics and some of the problems students may face when tackling this subject. I myself have also learnt a lot about the different sounds. I am from the North of England and I found that some words have a phonetic spelling that differs from how I personally would pronounce them, but that's all part of the learning process. I liked learning about all of the different places of articulation and found it amazing how we do this naturally without even thinking about it. The most reliable way for me to be able to test what is written in this unit is to see how I would pronounce these words. I found it really interesting! Lots of useful info about sounds and speech, I will have to work a bit more in my own time to get truly familiar with the phonetic alphabet, but it is quite new to me and things like this take time. Hopefully I am a lot more prepared to answer students' questions when it comes to this area!
