This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The productive skills (writing and speaking) are used with the purpose of communicating. They are based on accuracy and fluency activities. Probably, the writing skill is the most neglected and also students prefer to concentrate on their speaking skill. A teacher should always encourage students to speak (even if sometimes they have problems in doing it, because of lack of confidence or peer intimidation). Writing has some differences which separates from speaking: handwriting is important (and we have to think about those students who use a different alphabet from the English language, or those who write from right to left). It does not mean that all students have to write in the same manner, but we should always encourage them to improve their handwriting. Also spelling is important above all for languages such as English where we can have words written in the same way but with different pronunciations or words pronounced differently but written in the same way.
