It was really interesting to see what a difference the attitude of the teacher can make on the class. The first lesson was so dull, boring, and intimidating because the teacher never smiled or seemed enthusiastic about the subject. The students hardly participated at all in the first lesson. The bright, engaging, enthusiastic attitude of the teacher in the second lesson really made students more comfortable with answering questions and participating. It's also really interesting what knowing students names are can do for the teacher, in terms of building rapport. Also, to get answers from students, the teacher would do a round-robin method of answering questions, and allowing for each student to get a chance to speak up. The first lesson made me uncomfortable just by watching it, I can hardly imagine what the students must have felt in that class. The second lesson was a lot more fun and engaging, and I would definitely participate if I were a student in that class.
