This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit gives an overview of the many roles and responsibilities of both teachers and learners. I learned that good teacher enjoys and knows the subject material well and can teach it clearly, but more importantly, he/she cares about the learning of the students. A good teacher has many roles including manager/controller, organizer, facilitator, assesor, participant, tutor, and prompter. I also learned about the qualities of a good student. Good students are motivated, listen, ask questions, and are willing to experiment and accept criticism. In general, good teachers make good students. I also learned about the differences between adult and young language. Knowing that adult learners tend to be more motivated but have more nervousness and fixed ideas about the way that education works was especially helpful to me as I plan to work with Adult learners. Finally, I learned the six stages of language proficiency and the different challenges that come with each level.
