This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When I first started, my mentor always told me that the hardest to teach in any language is comprehension. I believed this thought until I gained enough knowledge to prove his point. Indeed it is the hardest to teach. But with the proper skills and understanding, these two are easy to teach.
Based on this chapter and in-line with my experience, pre-teaching the words is very important for the development of the students understanding. With proper understanding of words, students will be able to understand what is being talked about.
It is also true that sometimes students who are not speakers of the language may find listening harder than reading as they could see the words in reading while they see nothing for reference in listening. But in some international schools, students are better at listening than reading as they have developed listening more than reading. Overall, we can still say that once students are taught properly all of the skills will be balanced.
