I have learned more about what the role of the teacher inside of the classroom should be. I had always perceived the role of the teacher to be purely a manager, not realizing that there are many roles a teacher may take on with their students. I also learned the differences between young and adult learners. I have only ever taught children so I didn't realize all the baggage that can come with being a student of a foreign language later in life. This knowledge will help me to be more effective in my teaching strategies with adults in the future. I found it especially interesting that adults may bring a preconceived notion of how teaching should occur to the classroom on the very first day of lessons, while a 7 year old won't have those expectations. I think this may make teaching more difficult, but I also see how it could make the job easier if communication with the students from the very beginning is an open dialogue and keeps everyone in the classroom open-minded.
