This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit One gave me a general overview of the characteristics most common to teachers and students (learners) especially in an English language course setting. It was informative to be able to have the different roles of a teacher classified into specific albeit fluid categories such as manager (taking charge of a classroom), prompter (encouraging students) and model (providing pronunciation help). It is important that as a teacher, I am able to adapt to any one of these roles when the activities, lessons and student feedback in class call for it. It was also interesting and helpful to learn about the language level classification of different student age groups (young learners v adult learners) and the ways in which they differ in the classroom as a result of their motivations, language experience and behavior. I think that this is especially noteworthy because it gives me an idea of how to organize and tailor different activities according to age group and language level.
