There are many advantages and disadvantages of using course books in the classroom whilst being good for some it can be a bore for others, especially the more creative person. Ä° think having a course book is good as it gives a guide as to where you want to be and what you want to achieve as its syllabus based. Authentic materials are great to use as It can bring out the confidence of students but thats only if they understand it. Ä°t's also real so therefore can be more interesting and can be relevant to the students interests, whilst preparing them for the 'real' world. This Authentic way is made for native speakers, so, as the material is not graded to the level of the ESL students, it might not be so appealing. On the other hand created materials can be graded to the level of the students and can be used to replace or support material from the course book. Ä° think its nice to have a mixure of all teaching styles to keep the classroom fresh and energetic!
