This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
One of the most important things that I took away from this unit is the fact that a lesson plan should be flexible. I can see how a new teacher would want to stick to what is written on a piece of paper because he or she might be uncomfortable with thinking on the spot or teaching new English speakers for the first time, but it is true that a lesson plan must not be rigid so that changes can be made based on how the students are learning or how they are reacting to a specific activity. I think that it is important to have a decent amount of detail in the lesson plan, not specifically for the class but for future reference when you cannot remember what the students learned in a given class period or lesson. A lot of times, the teacher focuses on the new topic, grammar point...etc that the students are learning, but it is so important to have variety in your lesson plan so that the students learn most effectively and so that they are excited to do whatever you ask of them.
